John Curry: Initial report on Lima HC meeting 11-15-05
There were approx. 70 people in attendance. I would say the make-up of actives to retirees was about 50/50.
Paul Boyer delivered an excellent speech concerning OSBA's Brandt being against ANY increase in contribution rates by the local school boards -- he was encouraged to stop his speech (by the presenters) short of its completion, but Paul prevailed. His speech will soon be available to all. I will have to commend STRS's Ms. Biederman on her presentation. She did present an accurate picture of the current state of the STRS hc insurance dilemma. There were no negative representations made concerning CORE or CORE's stances on the current state of affairs at STRS. In short, no BS! Ms. Biederman used the term "death spiral" several times in describing what could happen to STRS healthcare should a dedicated stream of revenue not be found. I found this interesting since some of our CORE members have brought this point up several times in the past. There will be a more comprehensive report later on this topic. I was truly disappointed in the turn out. John, a Proud CORE member
