George Doyle: Letter to Teresa Fedor re: charter schools

Dear Teresa:

You may not remember, but I was on your screening committee when you screened for your office. I just want you to know that I feel if the State of Ohio funded the public schools as well as they do the charter schools, we could accomplish what needs to be done so that our children are educated they way they should be. The problem is that when the Governor gives more and more money to charter schools, which are failing miserably, it takes away from public schools and we must then deal with more unfunded mandates. I wish that the Governor's kids were educated in one of these so called "Charter Schools" and maybe then he would not be so quick to given them even more money. These schools must be held accountable and be made to pay the money back when they fail miserably in doing what they claim is the difference between them and public schools. Until our elected official insist upon this, our public schools will continue to suffer needlessly. I urge you to do all within your power to put a stop to pumping more money into Charter Schools until they are held to the same standards and accountabilities as the public schools. In the case of public education, LESS IS NOT MORE!! Thank you for your consideration and help in this matter.

George V. Doyle, President
Allen County Retired Teachers Association
